Rick Atherton

Clinical Psychology Registrar

Rick is a warm and empathic clinical psychology registrar whose approach aims to work collaboratively alongside people to achieve their goals and increase their quality of life. Rick believes in building a strong and meaningful therapeutic relationship allowing for people to explore their concerns with safety, curiosity, and compassion. Rick supports individuals of all ages, including children and families, adolescents, and adults including couples. Rick is experienced in evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness Integrated Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MiCBT).  

 

Rick completed his Master of Clinical Psychology at the University of Technology Sydney where he gained experience working with mental health issues including mood and anxiety related concerns, interpersonal and communication difficulties, emotional dysregulation, social skills difficulties, chronic pain and eating disorders. Rick’s research focused on the field of depression specifically the trajectories of depressive symptoms in adults. His experience includes face-to-face therapy, telehealth, group programs, community settings and research clinics.
