His therapy style is characterized by authenticity, warmth, and curiosity. He is passionate about ongoing learning and incorporating the latest evidence-based research and training into his therapy practice to optimize outcomes for his clients. Byron has a particular interest in Schema therapy, which aims to help individuals identify and address their underlying “schemas” or deeply ingrained patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving formed in early development that can cause distress and difficulties in one’s current life.
Byron has a wealth of experience in providing individual and group therapy to adults and young people within private practice, university clinics and the PTSD ward at Southcoast Private Hospital. His experience includes working with university student populations with anxiety and depression, and with adults experiencing PTSD, emotion dysregulation, anxiety, persistent depression, personality disorders, and interpersonal difficulties. He has experience assisting LGBTQIA+ people and neurodiverse children, adolescents and adults. Byron does not offer ASD psychometric assessments.
Byron draws on skills from therapy modalities of Schema Therapy, CBT, ACT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing. He uses these approaches to craft personalized treatment plans that cater to the specific emotional needs and goals of each client.
Outside of work, Byron has a deep appreciation for animals (especially dogs) and nature, with a special connection to the ocean. He cherishes spending time with friends and family, rock climbing, playing guitar, and embarking on weekend adventures. Byron’s diverse experiences, both professional and personal, inform his empathetic and holistic approach to therapy. These allow him to provide tailored support to his clients while also nurturing his own growth and wellbeing.
