Joanne Hew
Senior Clinical Psychologist and Board Approved Supervisor
Jo is a Clinical Psychologist with experience providing individual and group-based interventions for older adolescents and adults who present with a diverse range of psychological difficulties and mental health conditions. Jo’s specialty and interest area is in the treatment and understanding of attachment and trauma-related presentations, in particular Complex PTSD, PTSD, addictive processes, grief and loss, and complex emotional and behavioural difficulties including dissociative presentations.
Jo’s approach is compassionate, collaborative and deeply respectful. She fosters a safe & therapeutic environment whereby clients can learn to be curious about their experiences, understand their impact on the present moment and the impact on their relationships, and together, develop a treatment plan to improve their overall wellbeing and relationships. Jo’s therapeutic style is responsive to the needs of the client and is influenced by attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology and polyvagal theory (science of the nervous system). Jo is trained in and integrates various modalities and techniques to support clients to reach their goals including Internal Family Systems (IFS Institute Level 2 trained), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness-based techniques and somatic skills to help regulate the nervous system.
Jo has and continues to work part-time for NSW Health in inpatient & community mental health settings. She is also Board-approved supervisor.
